Teaching Innovative Self-Care for Repetitive Strain Injury

What brings you here? Are you an individual struggling with a repetitive strain injury (RSI) such as carpal tunnel syndrome, tendonitis, or thoracic outlet syndrome? Are you a corporate safety or human resources manager grappling with RSI-related costs?

If so, you’re not alone. In 2004, the Bureau of Labor Statistics reported that close to 50,000 people suffered repetitive strain injuries severe enough to prevent them from working. Overall, RSI accounts for three out of every five work-related absences.

If you’re an individual struggling with RSI, you may already know that it can interfere with many aspects of your life, from making a living to pursuing a hobby. Perhaps you’ve seen different doctors, receiving conflicting advice, or even been told your injury is all in your head. Maybe you’re feeling frustrated, powerless, fearful, or even depressed.

If you’re a corporate safety or human resources manager, you may already know that a single RSI-related disability can cost a company thousands of dollars per day in lost productivity, paperwork expenses, and insurance premiums. Given that workers with carpal tunnel syndrome miss a median of twenty-eight workdays and those with tendonitis thirteen, RSI costs can quickly affect a corporate balance sheet.

Cedron Sterling, founder of RSI Healing Workshops knows firsthand what it’s like to live with RSI. Ten years ago, Cedron Sterling was a licensed massage therapist, professional musician, and avid multimedia computer user. Because of his own injury, he couldn’t work, play music, or make art. He consulted specialists, read all the research he could find, and studied solutions ranging from physical therapy and ergonomics to meditation and nutrition. Over several years, he developed an integrative healing approach that eventually restored his health.

Then he founded RSI Healing Workshops to guide other people through the maze of RSI back to pain-free functioning. What he learned—and what he teaches—is a practice of balanced self-care for recovering and sustaining full musculoskeletal health.
